Comfort Nursing

As for me comfort nursing has become a regular thing for us. Call me silly but I've always liked the thought of being able to soothe my baby by breastfeeding. It makes me feel needed and it comforts me in a way too. Over the past few months I have come to the realization that these innocent moments between mother and daughter have caused many many sleepless nights. At first I blamed it on teething, then on growth spurts but the truth is my LO wants to comfort nurse all night long which makes for one tired mama. Once my LO notices there is no boob in her mouth she wakes up screaming, with her eyes closed, yes closed, reaching for my boob. This also makes it harder for my LO to sleep when I'm not around and lets not talk about the car rides. Many times I've had to pull over just to feed her so she can fall asleep. I've also noticed that she doesn't seem to self soothe on her own which explains why she wakes up off and on all night long... she looks for my breast to soothe/comfort her. Breastfeeding your child to sleep and for comfort is not a bad thing to do at all. In fact, it’s pretty normal you ask me but what do you do when comfort nursing has caused an issue with your LO's sleeping habits? I know that many babies nurse to sleep and wake 1-3 times during the night for the first year so should I just wait it out? Will she eventually get it and not look for my boob for comfort? Do you comfort nurse?? Or Did you once comfort nurse? How did you transition from comfort nursing? Are you still comfort nursing your LO?
